What is CSA?
CSA or Community Supported Agriculture, is a way that city and suburban residents can get direct access to high quality, fresh produce grown locally by a regional farmer. When you become a member of our CSA, you’re purchasing a “share” of the farms’ produce delivered year round either weekly or bi-weekly, to a convenient pick-up location in your neighborhood. We provide many payment options but you can also contact us for special requests. With Community Supported Agriculture there is a direct link between the farmer and the consumer. Know how your food is grown, join J R Organics CSA.

What Makes Us So Special?
J R Organics has been certified organic by CCOF since 1986. All produce grown on the farm is 100% certified organic.
Un-Treated, Non-GMO Seeds
Great produce starts with great seeds. We grow from seeds that are chemically un-treated and 100% GMO free, obtained from quality sources such as Johnny’s Selected Seeds.
Sprays of any kind are not used at J R Organics. We believe that even organically sanctioned sprays may be harmful. Instead we rely on beneficial insects from American Insectories, good soil management, regular feedings with Agrowinn organic fertilizers and a balanced ecosystem.
Unlike many box delivery services or “fake” CSAs, our boxes can be easily traced to their original sources:
All vegetables – grown organically on the J R Organics farm in Valley Center
Strawberries and all melons - grown organically on the J R Organics farm in Valley Center
Citrus and Avocados – obtained from our neighbors Stehly Organics Farm
Apples and Grapes – obtained from Smit Organic Orchards, Linden CA. J R Organics has known the Smit family since 1969.
What’s The Difference Between a Real CSA and a “CSA Like” Box Delivery Service?
Don’t Be Fooled By Fake CSAs!
With the recent success of family farms and CSA programs, many “CSA like” box delivery services have sprung up overnight and are sometimes known as fake CSAs. Fake CSAs are not necessarily local farms. Their websites make many claims but it is nearly impossible to discern if they are true or not.
Do you know the difference between naturally grown and organic? Many times the term “naturally grown” is used to misrepresent food as being chemically free, but this is not the case. Sometimes a farm will advertise “no pesticides” or “pesticide free”, but I am not aware of one regulatory agency that monitors these claims. Additionally, there are many other harmful chemicals used in conventional agriculture besides pesticides. Only certified organic can assure you that the item was indeed grown without any harmful chemicals. There is a lot of misleading hype out there so be wary!
Questions You Need To Ask
When choosing a CSA, you need verifiable answers to these questions:
Where is the farm located?
If several farms are used, where is each one located?
Are they near an e-coli producing facility such as a dairy?
How long after harvest is the produce delivered?
Are the workers treated fairly?
Are the working conditions sanitary?
Is reclaimed water used for irrigation?
Is sewer sludge used for fertilizer?
Can each item in the box be traced to a specific farm?
You can trust in the words of these companies but the only way to know for certain is by visiting each farm regularly.
Fake CSAs Make It Almost Impossible To Verify A Farm
Fake CSAs can operate from distances of over 700 miles! Not so easy to make a visit. A true CSA farm will provide fresh produce within a 100-150 mile radius. This is good for the environment and good for the local economy.

Which Size Box is Right for You?
We have two size boxes to choose from, small and regular. The regular size box contains 11 different items, the small has seven. Determining the right size depends on the amount of fresh produce consumed by the household but in general, the weekly, regular box, provides lots of veggies for a family of four. A family of two might find the weekly, small box, better suits their needs. If you’re unsure, start with a Trial subscription and see what works best for you. Visit our Store and sign up today.
