This is a delicious way to get your daily supply of raw greens such as Swiss chard, kale, collards, beet and turnip tops, mizuna, tatsoi, etc. Kids love it!
It works best with a high speed blender such as a K-tec Champ or a Vita-mix. They are pricey, but well worth it. These blenders will not only blend greens, but also root crops such as carrots and beets, to an unbelievably smooth consistency…no chuncks.
I have since put away my juicer now that I make green smoothies. It’s easier, quicker, less clean-up and more nutritious as I consume the whole plant including that essential fiber.
A wonderful book on the green smoothies is “Green For Life”, by Victoria Boutenko available at Amazon.com
1 cup cold water, Rice Dream, or organic raw milk
1 organic banana
1/2 cup organic, fresh or frozen blueberries
1/2 cup organic, fresh or frozen strawberries (or other berry)
When using strawberries, I leave on the green tops.
2-4 (or more) whole leaves from a dark green leafy vegetable, torn into large pieces. (Start with Swiss chard as it is very mellow, then experiment with other greens and combinations. If you have a high speed blender try adding carrots or beets)
1/2 Tbsp or more agave syrup (or other sweetener)
Put liquid into blender. Add remaining ingedients. Blend at high speed until creamy, about 1 minute. Pour and serve.
